I Kings 4:25 Vines & Fig Trees

1 Kings 4:25

And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree,  from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.

The fruitful vine and fig tree are symbols of God given prosperity and protection. For a man to sit under the shade of his own vine and fig tree meant that God's blessing, prosperity and protection was on the land. A traveler passing by was allowed to eat fruit from the fig tree because it was the people's tree and represented God's gift of prosperity to His people. The vine and fig tree without fruit are symbols of God's protection and prosperity lost or taken away.
